Lawn Update

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

IMG_1182It’s been awhile since I’ve updated our readers on the lawn’s progress. Spring has been good to us. Lots of rain means a happy lawn. Now, our garden could use some summer sun, which we are getting plenty of this weekend.

It’s also been a good year for my single hop plant. It has grown feet past its previous record. Usually, it doesn’t even grow past the small pole I give it to climb. This year it has grown past that and is even growing past the temporary twine I’ve given it to climb. I believe this is its fourth summer, and I might actually get a crop out of it this year.

Hood River

IMG_1169 Spent last weekend in Hood River for my friend John’s wedding. We had only been to Hood River once briefly last year on the way back from Bend. This time we got to spend two days there. We stayed at very nice B&B just outside of Hood River called Sakura Ridge. It is a working cherry and pear orchard with a lodge in the middle. Our room had a great view of Mt. Hood and breakfast included fresh picked strawberries every morning. On Saturday morning we mountain biked along the Deschutues River. Then had a quick pint and bite at the Full Sail Brewery before cleaning up and heading to the wedding. The wedding was at another B&B farther up the Hood River valley. The wedding was lots of fun. We met some fellow Seattleites, Purdue grads, and drank some good homebrew. The night started a bit cloudy up cleared up around sunset which gave us a this great picture of Mt. Hood. On Sunday explored downtown Hood River and watched the Wind/Kite Surfers before heading home.

Tiny Houses

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

The PI has a piece on tiny houses. Our house is pretty tiny, maybe not as tiny as the ones featured. I would like to think we are part of a “small-house movement” even if it is not entirely intentional. Sherry is already sold on the Tumbleweed home, we just need the plot of land in the Methow for it.

Old Man

Went to see the latest (and hopefully last) Indian Jones last night. It met my expectations, which were not too high. Lots of over the top chase scenes with a few old man jokes tossed in. It was very much a mashup of Indian Jones, James Bond, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Hopefully that does not give away too much.
